2) Volleyball Tournament
Congratulations Mr. Dave Annis on the very successful Girls Regional Volleyball Finals held on Tuesday and Thursday of last week (and Tuesday of this week). The events were extremely well organized and there were many positive comments from parents on how well run the event was.

3) Girls Volleyball Team.
Congratulations to our Girls Volleyball team who won the silver medal in the Regional Volleyball Finals on Tuesday.  In the final match:  they lost a game to Northridge, won the second game and then lost the tie breaker. Very close, competitive games!

The girls then went on to play and defeat Hillcrest for the "Wild Card" spot allowing them to progress to this Saturday's Volleyball City Finals.

Thank-you to Mrs. Holly Barrett, Mrs. Kathy McArthur, Ms. Lindsay Foxworthy our Girls'  Volleyball Coaches.

Stoney Creek put on an amazingly high spirited ‘Pep Rally’ to cheer the Volleyball girls team on and the ‘Robotics Lego’ team wishing them the best of luck at their tournaments on Saturday. Thank you to the Stoney Creek Cheerleaders, Mr. Dave Annis for his slide show and Ms. Julie Ruberto for leading this pep rally.

Just a gentle reminder, kiss and ride is exactly that.  Drive up, open the car door to have your child exit, kiss them goodbye and drive away.  We continue to battle with cars left unattended, running with no one inside or running with children inside. Please abide by the kiss and ride rules!

Update on Wednesday, October 29th, 2014

As you may have already heard we experienced 2 false fire alarms this afternoon at school. On both occasions the school was evacuated and the fire department responded immediately.

According to their investigation these false alarms were due to a system sensory  malfunction on our main fire panel.  After the 2nd alarm, maintenance immediately came out to the school and replaced the malfunctioning sensor.

We apologize for this inconvenience for your children. At the notification of the second alarm all students were reminded to take their coats outside with them.  Both times the school was safely evacuated.

Another quick reminder:

Thursday, October 30th is Black and Orange Day

Friday, October 31st is Dress up for Halloween.  Students have been reminded to please wear appropriate attire with no blood, masks or weapons allowed.

On Friday, October 31st, our Intermediate students are presenting Halloween tableaus in our gymnasium.Students from grades 4-6 will be invited to walk through the various tableau scenes that our grade 7 & 8 students have created. The Intermediate students are excited to share their tableaus.

Everyone is reminded to please dress warmly on Friday night Trick-or-Treating as the forecast is SNOW!!

Cross Country Runner Parents

Cross Country Runner Parents,

Due to busing issues, we are unable to bus students to Jack Chambers tomorrow afternoon.  There are currently no available buses due to a Secondary school function at this same time.  As a result of this, all grade 5-8 runners will walk (approximately 35 minute walk) and the grade 3 and 4 students will be driven by staff and volunteer parents.

If you are available to assist in driving tomorrow at 2:30 p.m., please call the office in the morning.

The first race begins at 3:15 p.m.

Looking Ahead to the New School Year!

Welcome to the 2014-2015 school year! I trust that everyone had a relaxing summer and spent quality time with friends and family.  On behalf of the Stoney Creek Public School teaching and support staff,  I would like to extend a very special welcome to all those families who have children registering at Stoney Creek for the first time in Junior or Senior Kindergarten and to all the new students who are joining our classes in other grades.  We are very much looking forward to meeting you and having you involved in our greater school community.  We’d also like to welcome back all of our currently registered families as we start an exciting new year.

I am looking forward to my first year as Principal at Stoney Creek and working with you as partners in your child’s education to make this a very productive and successful year. Providing a first rate academic program in an environment that is safe and friendly is what this school prides itself on.  We invite your participation in our school activities and your help to build on the many wonderful attributes that we currently enjoy at the school.  We encourage those parents that are new to our school community to become involved in our School Council meetings and initiatives. Our first School Council meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, September 10th at 6:30 p.m. in our school library. All parents are welcome to attend. I am certain that you will feel welcome at the monthly meetings and any volunteering you can do on behalf of our parent group would be greatly appreciated by all.

We would like to welcome several new staff members to Stoney Creek Public School.  This information is posted on our School Web Site in the drop down column listed 'classes', please click on the link 'school organization' to view the specific teacher assignments for the 2014-15 school year.

During the first week of every month, you can expect to view our school newsletter on our web site which will give you information about school programs, extra curricular activities, school policies and general information about current issues.

I look forward to meeting as many families as possible at our “Meet the Staff” Night which is Thursday, September 18th.  At this time there will be a 'kick off' of our 'Vision, Mission, Values' statement for our School Community. Please feel free to drop by and introduce yourself.

A huge thank you to all of the families who volunteered their time over the summer to water the plants in our Outdoor Classroom. We anticipate classrooms utilizing this learning space on a regular basis.

Our first day procedures for all students will be posted the week before school starts in the Principal's Blog.

Once again, welcome back! We are looking forward to a most exciting school year.
