Comic Con at Stoney Creek!

Hello Stoney Creek Community!

We have had a very successful Comic Con week with Monday and Tuesday being our Conference Days and students viewing some amazing Superhero creations.  We had Rogers TV come out to video the students work and interview many of them about their Superhero's. Look forward to the link to view this. We are so proud of our Student Council representatives for taking the lead on this project and supported and guided many of our classes during the conference.  Our students were incredibly engaged and mesmerized by the Superhero creations.  The 3D models were detailed, collaborative and out of this world! The students also created trading cards describing the Superhero attributes and a video trailer on the Ipads demonstrating the special powers of their hero.  We were very proud of the entire schools’ involvement as all 42 classrooms participated in this special Comic con conference.

Friday is our Superhero dress up day and all students are encouraged to wear their favourite Superhero costume.  No need to go out and purchase a costume, everyday items can be used to create a superhero image using towels or fabric as capes.

Friday is also our Marvel Movie Day for our students.  FDK’s will be viewing ‘Kung Fu Panda’, Grades 1-5 will be viewing ‘The Lego’ movie and our Grades 6-8 will be watching ‘Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer’.

There will be snacks for the students to purchase prior to watching their movie. Please allow your child to bring in a toonie to purchase a snack to munch on during the movie.

Thank you once again for your continuous support.

Chocolate Bar Fundraiser Update

Chocolate Bar Fundraiser

Well done Stoney Creek!!  For the past two weeks, we've had over 600 cases of chocolate bars out in the Stoney Creek community.  It is almost time for our  Stoney Creek Chocolate Bar Fundraiser to come to an end, however, due to an overwhelming response to our chocolate fundraiser this year, we are extending the fundraiser by a couple of days.   Instead of the fundraiser ending, Friday, October 16th, we will now carry it over the weekend and all money and chocolate must be returned no later than Monday, October 19th if you would like it to count towards a prize and your classroom totals.

All money received after Monday, October 19th, will not count towards your classroom totals, nor your chance at winning one of our top prizes.  So, please get your money and any unsold bars in latest Monday, October 19th.

Congratulations Mr. Dave Annis on the very successful Girls Regional Volleyball Finals held on Tuesday and Thursday of last week (and Tuesday of this week). The events were extremely well organized and there were many positive comments from parents on how well run the event was.

3) Girls Volleyball Team.
Congratulations to our Girls Volleyball team who won the silver medal in the Regional Volleyball Finals on Tuesday.  In the final match:  they lost a game to Northridge, won the second game and then lost the tie breaker. Very close, competitive games!

Stoney Creek put on an amazingly high spirited ‘Pep Rally’ to cheer the Volleyball girls team on and the ‘Robotics Lego’ team wishing them the best of luck at their tournaments on Saturday. Thank you to the Stoney Creek Cheerleaders, Mr. Dave Annis for his slide show and Ms. Julie Ruberto for leading this pep rally.

4) Boys' Volleyball Team
Thank-you to Mr. Jason Eastman and Mrs. Julie Ruberto, our Boys' Volleyball Coaches.

8) Parking & Kiss & Ride
If you have noticed we have orange pylons now lining the centre of the road in front of our school. This new traffic control technique has definitely deterred drivers from completing U-turns.  We will continue with this practice until it is no longer required.

Just a gentle reminder, kiss and ride is exactly that.  Drive up, open the car door to have your child exit, kiss them goodbye and drive away.  We continue to battle with cars left unattended, running with no one inside or running with children inside. Please abide by the kiss and ride rules!

Update on Wednesday, October 29th, 2014

As you may have already heard we experienced 2 false fire alarms this afternoon at school. On both occasions the school was evacuated and the fire department responded immediately.

According to their investigation these false alarms were due to a system sensory  malfunction on our main fire panel.  After the 2nd alarm, maintenance immediately came out to the school and replaced the malfunctioning sensor.

We apologize for this inconvenience for your children. At the notification of the second alarm all students were reminded to take their coats outside with them.  Both times the school was safely evacuated.

Another quick reminder:

Thursday, October 30th is Black and Orange Day

Friday, October 31st is Dress up for Halloween.  Students have been reminded to please wear appropriate attire with no blood, masks or weapons allowed.

On Friday, October 31st, our Intermediate students are presenting Halloween tableaus in our gymnasium.Students from grades 4-6 will be invited to walk through the various tableau scenes that our grade 7 & 8 students have created. The Intermediate students are excited to share their tableaus.

Everyone is reminded to please dress warmly on Friday night Trick-or-Treating as the forecast is SNOW!!

 Happy Halloween!
